Today's lessons were all focused on looking for details. Our first activity was a very detailed picture of a party scene. The children first looked for clues to answer questions I posed to them about the picture. Then I asked them to color the picture while looking for the tiny details in the entire scene. We had an excellent discussion around both of these activities. They did a fabulous job.
Next, we reread the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and then completed the Word Wizard activity using words we had heard in the story. This page has come home for you to see. I had noticed last time the children were not using the clues given to help them solve the word puzzles. I encouraged them to use all the clues to help with their answers. Then, once they thought they knew the answer, they needed to use phonetic clues of a word to help them fill in the spelling. I heard a lot of slow, stretching of words to figure out the spelling. Wonderful work.
Last, we reviewed the Roman Numeral system again. I brought in a watch to show them Roman Numerals in action and it turns out the watch had an error in it's numbering. Ask your child if they can remember what the mistake was.
Next week we'll complete some logic puzzles and use the book, Franklin in the Dark to complete our word puzzles.
