After completing our Language Arts Challenge Problems the students had the entire period to work on the Lewis and Clark timeline activity. The students were given ten to twelve events from the expedition to figure out the correct order of events, verify the order, then create an illustrated timeline of the events. The only research materials allowed were the books I have in the classroom. I am really stressing the use of "touchable" resources, not the internet. They worked very hard, but did not get to the illustration part of the timeline. Next week we'll do the building of the timeline.
We'll begin the dilemma activity on March 13, when I return from the Equations Tournament. They will work with one partner on that one, with just one student (who volunteered) doing the activity on their own. There are eight dilemmas and we have 15 students so it just didn't work out to partner every one up.
I have put off the individual project until March 27, so that the kids do not have homework over Spring Break.
Homework:
Keep "playing" the online games. However, specifically looking up events on your timeline is strictly forbidden. I want you to use the materials in the classroom. If you have free time in class you could ask your teacher if you can come to my classroom to work on the events.
Review the projects and Native Americans that the expedition met and try to choose what you want to do for your project and which tribe you will research.
